Sea Island Cotton - Sea Island Cotton or long-staple cotton commanded high prices from makers of fine fabrics in the 1700s. Following Eli Whitney's invention of the cotton gin in 1793, short-staple cotton became the staple crop across much of the South.
Cotton rat - A cotton rat is any member of the Sigmodon genus of rodents. They are called cotton rats because they build their nests out of cotton, and can damage cotton crops.
Cotton Bowl (game) - The AT&T Cotton Bowl Classic is a United States college football bowl game played annually since 1937 at the self-named stadium in Dallas, Texas. The game is currently sponsored by AT&T, and has previously been known as the Mobil Cotton Bowl Classic, the Southwestern Bell Cotton Bowl Classic, and the SBC Cotton Bowl Classic.
Cotton Incorporated - Cotton Incorporated aims "To increase the demand for and profitability of cotton through research and promotion." The organization is funded by cotton growers in the United States through per-bale assessments on producers and importers levied by the Cotton Board, which reports to the United States Department of Agriculture.
